6/26/08 EUGENE, Ore. -- The late, great Rodney Dangerfield used to say, bada-bing, bada-boom: I went to a fight the other night, and a hockey game broke out. "Once the track meet starts," Jill Geer, the spokeswoman for USA Track & Field, was saying about the sport's 2008 U.S. Olympic Trials, which get underway Friday at the University of Oregon's Hayward Field, "we realize that track and field is a sport, not just a legal battle. "We saw that in 2004," Geer said Wednesday, a reference to the Trials that year in Sacramento, Calif., when track was embroiled in the first phase of the BALCO scandal.
