Athletes are in the business of enduring pain. They break ankles, tear ligaments, fracture skulls – they chafe, bleed and scar. They fall down harder than anyone, and yet you never see them cry…until the Trials come along. Then along comes a deeper pain – a pain that makes you question whether all the previous pain was worth it. The pain of fourth place, fifth place and all subsequent places thereafter. And those tear ducts, which any other time of year don’t appear to exist, suddenly explode into a salty, unstoppable downpour. Some might argue its the soaps, but I’d like to think the Track Town Trials keep the tissue business thriving.
