6/28/08 EUGENE -- A determined Shalane Flanagan fought off a last-lap challenge from Kara Goucher to win the 10,000 meters on Friday night in the U.S. Olympic Track and Field Trials before a record crowd at Hayward Field. Most of the overflow turnout of 20,964 stuck around for the 10,000, and they were rewarded with a dramatic race in which Flanagan shifted gears and broke away from Goucher on the back straight to win in a Hayward Field record time of 31 minutes, 34.81 seconds.
