6/30/08 Tom Pappas, who grew up in Glendale and went to Lane Community College in Eugene, moved into second place in the men's decathlon after posting the second-best discus mark. Pappas earned 859 points for his second-place mark of 162 feet, 2 inches. After seven events, his 6,217 points trails Bryan Clay (6,411). Clay, the 2004 Olympic silver medalist, extended his lead by winning the discus with a mark of 173-0. The winning throw drew loud applause from the faithful fans on hand.
