Public address announcer Mike Jay’s mellow voice has carried far from the Drake Stadium press box.

Jay is known as the Voice of the Drake Relays. He’s announcing at the NCAA Track and Field Championships this week.

Now he’ll be a voice at the U.S. Olympic Trials.

The Columbus Junction resident was invited to the meet in Eugene, Ore., June 27-July 6. Four announcers will take turns at the microphone.

“It’s a lot more pressure, since this is our team going to Beijing,” Jay said, standing outside his bird’s-eye view booth at Drake.
