Jennifer Barringer now owns the Hayward Field record in the women’s 3,000-meter steeplechase to go with her fond memories of the stadium.

Barringer won her semifinal heat in 9 minutes, 48.50 seconds Monday night at the U.S. Olympic Track & Field Trials to break the field record of 9:49.41 by Lisa Nye in 2001. The 21-year-old Barringer, who just completed her junior year at Colorado, was overwhelmed by the ovation she got on her final lap.
