7/6/08 EUGENE, Ore. — At the start of the 3,000-meter steeplechase Saturday, Anthony Famiglietti took the lead and did not surrender it, finishing first in 8 minutes 20.24 seconds. Then he climbed into the stands at Hayward Field in his bare feet and celebrated with what appeared to be random spectators. While he seemed to be one of the most effusive victors at the Olympic track and field trials, Famiglietti also appeared to be one of the most conflicted about participating in the Beijing Games.
