So what should you know about Adam Nelson, who seeks to make his third Olympics team in the finals of the shot put today in the U.S. Olympic Track & Field Trials at Hayward Field?

Start with the track stuff. He’s the only American track and field athlete to have medaled in every Olympic Games and World Championships dating to 2000.

He’s a two-time Olympic silver medalist, a three-time World championships silver medalist, and the 2005 World championships gold medalist. He’s a four-time national champion, including the past two Trials, whose personal best is 73 feet, 10¼ inches. He’s been ranked No. 1 in the world three times by Track & Field News, and was ranked No. 2 last year.
