The great Jackie Joyner-Kersee was named by Sports Illustrated as the best female athlete of the 20th century, and one emerging American star entered the Olympic Trials this week drawing similar comparisons.

It wasn’t Hyleas Fountain.

Yet there was Fountain on Friday afternoon running out of the blocks and into a gear not even Joyner-Kersee discovered in the 100-meter hurdles.
