The Portland runner has experienced a lot in track, but not the Olympics

Galen Rupp has been training like an Olympic-caliber athlete since he was at Central Catholic High School in Southeast Portland.

The payoff has been a running career that is near the center of a U.S. resurgence in distance events. Along the way, Rupp set state records, national junior records and a U.S. collegiate 10,000-meter record. Last year, he earned a World Championships berth.
