These days, a heavy police presence is a given at a high-profile event such as the U.S. Olympic Track & Field Trials.

“There is a certain standard of care that has become the norm in this country for the past decade during large sporting events,” said Eugene police Capt. Chuck Tilby, chairman of the Trials’ security committee.
