6/27/08 Since capturing district titles in the 100- and 200-meter dashes as an eighth-grader at Roosevelt Middle School in 1992, my track and field career steadily has gone downhill. After my freshman season I decided to give up the sport for my other love, perhaps the athletic opposite of track, softball. I said goodbye to shin splints and brutal stadium stair drills at Hayward Field and hello to 60-foot sprints down the baselines and lots of rest during games.
