EUGENE, Ore. -- On a morning in late March, Kara Goucher was beginning an ordinary practice on the sprawling Nike World Campus in Beaverton.

But this was no ordinary practice day. CNN happened to drop by wanting to shoot footage of Goucher as she prepared for the most important outdoor season of her life, which was to begin in a week with a local 5K race in Eugene.
