Twenty-eight years have passed, and retired Houston police officer Stanley Floyd still asks himself, "what if?"

Floyd was 18 when he won the 100 meters at the 1980 Olympic trials in Eugene, but he mostly remembers being "heartbroken" because this was the self-described "Trials to Nowhere."

President Carter had called for a boycott of the Moscow Olympics to protest the Soviet Union's invasion of Afghanistan.
